  • Mysteries of life.

I was watching discovery channel for a very short time last evening. They were discussing the creation of Earth's moon and what it would mean if it had not been created.

Evidently scientists debated for a long time three theories that might have created the moon. They almost came to the conclusion that none of them could have worked. Finally, the two planet collision theory was decided to be the only one that could have been feasible.

Then they discussed how critical it was that the moon was precisely the size, mass, makeup, and distance from the earth that it was. Even the method that the moon was created was critical to the creation of life itself. If all these factors had not been met, there would be no human life on earth. There would be no systematic weather or climate, or tides. The Earth would wobble radically on its axis. There probably would be no stable land mass. The Earth would spin much faster making the day much shorter.

There might be life, but it would aquatic. It unlikely would have been unable to evolve to any significant degree.

The whole point is that the odds of the Earth as it is being created by chance must be incredible.

And then I sat in wonder as I pondered the fact there are people who claim with certainty that there is no God.

Hi Ron... The Discovery Channel is the best. I spoke with a mathematician a few years ago that teaches at a local university. He spent several years doing a side project on calculating the unique anomolies showing why the moon should not being doing what it is doing and what it does. The moon evidently has properties like you mentioned and does things (like not rotating relative to the earth) that apparently do not occur elsewhere in nature.

      About The Moon ...

For those who read arabic or french ... you may be interested to read The Doctor's description of the inhabitants of The Moon in his book : "Winged Imagination or The Life of the Moon Dwellers"

There is a story of the Dr.'s that was conveyed to me by one of the brothers that the moon in fact was made by beings not of this galaxy and was in fact 'manufactured' and purposely attached to the earth. While some would or could view this as a fanciful flight of fiction, from evertyhing I have ever read and heard first hand of mathematical research, it is not a huge leap of faith that this is true. Even the mathematician I spoke with, that studied in great length all the strange, relatively unnatural habits of the moon, (and this is a scientist mind speaking)... said, and I paraphrase "it is almost as if it was brought here..."

We take for granted basically ALL and EVERY ONE of the incredulous 'miracles' and 'oddities' that occur around us EVERY DAY because WE ARE USED TO THEM being that way. In a world where there are 2 suns in the sky every day, this probably seems pretty normal to those people of that world, but to us seems pretty incredulous. My ancestors in northern Sweden that at times of the year have only a few hours (or hour!) of sun everyday, are pretty amazed at a tropical vacation at the equator.

Those that know that snow exists, have never seen it before, and then finally experience a New England winter...I have heard from them (while few actually LIKE it! ) it is quite miraculous. The process of birth; this is pretty much universally referred to as 'the miracle of birth'... but it actually is!!! Its just that we are well, kind of used to it, because, well, that is what happens here (earth).

How far fetched is it that beings exist in a galaxy far, far away (hopefully no copyright infringements on that one!) that upon a divine or spiritual order are mandated to build a moon and carry a work order to deliver it to the third rock from the sun at one end of the Milky Way galaxy? I imagine that in some circles of the universe, they are used to it, because, well, that is what happens there...

While I was watching the show and although it was not stated, it almost seemed as though they were saying this very same thing. Conditions had to be so perfect for the creation of the Moon with its' very specific characteristics and its' very specific impact on the earth, that one had to wonder how it could have been possible. The show went further to say that the conditions (the speed of travel, the distance from the earth, speed of revolution) of the moon have not been constance since it beginning. At one time I believe it said the Moon's cycle was eighteen days. It also was much closer to the earth. Each year it drifts 1.5 inches further from the earth. eventially, it will be gone. And with it, the rotational stability that it brings to earth.
