  • "Does Daheshism Believe in Heaven and Hell?"

From Lightning and Thunder, Volume 3, May 23, 1968

From "You ask and Doctor Dahesh Responds."

    Adnaam Hammood asks:
"Does Daheshism Believe in Heaven and Hell? And what do Heaven and Hell mean from a Daheshist point of view?"

    Doctor Dahesh
    Responds:

Yes, Daheshism believes in the existence of worlds which have been referred to as "Heaven and Hell" by the Holy Books.

These are material worlds whose numbers are in the uncountable billions, among which are thousands we can see fixed in the sky.

And Daheshism has known, through The Spirit, that all these material worlds support their own particular beings, compositions, daily habits, customs, units of measurements, and natural laws that totally differ from whatever we know on our planet.

Some of them are overflowing with happiness, and others teem with terrible misery.

As for Earth, it is a school of a specific spiritual ranking — a destination for any Man [or Woman] who deserves [to be born on] it.

In other words, a Man [or Woman] whose spiritual ranking is of the same degree as that of Earth's —[a Planet] where one acquires various knowledge and is subjected to many tests. Among these tests are [the test of] ego, pride, ambitions, and desires [and so on]. One either passes these tests, which would mean that [subsequently] good and virtue would triumph over evil and vice within themselves — or one would fail these tests.

And Daheshism believes that every being on Earth remains on it after their passing, transitioning from one life role to another, taking on — in each stage — a form and situation in life which is commensurate with actions committed in their former life. [This cycle remains in effect] until they attain a specific limit — beyond which it would necessary for them to either be upgraded to a loftier and better planet (which happens to be a degree among the degrees of Heaven) or descent to a lower and lowlier planet (which happens to be one abyss out of the Infernal abysses, commensurate with their actions on Earth).

In that way, they would remains in every new Planet, [be it] rising or falling, depending on the degree of success or failure in facing their trials. They do so until they achieve perfection at the end of their ascension as they reach the greatest Spiritual Planet [of all] and then merge with The Creator.

At that point, their greatest joy and optimum well-being shall be attained — and that is what Indians refer to as "Nirvana," or the desire of every Spirit to merge, in the end, with its Creator.
